NEW ORLEANS - Georgia State's season came to an end with a 78-44 loss in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament. Brittany Logan had 17 rebounds and 12 points for GSU, while Kendra Long finished her stellar career with 11 points.
Georgia State shot just 23% in the second half and 25.8% for the game in struggling all game long to get the ball in the basket. The teams traded baskets and Texas State was up 10-8 with 15:00 on the clock. But, as GSU missed, Texas State couldn't miss and went on a 14-0 run to open up a 24-8 lead at 10:27.
The fifth-seeded Panthers could never get the lead under double-digits. Texas State grew its lead to 47-22 at halftrime by shooting 57% in the first half and 6-of-10 outside the arc. TSU shot only 26% outside the arc for the season, but today they were on fire.
For the game, TSU finished with 10 3-pointers, while GSU was just 3-of-13 outside the arc. Georgia State was guilty of 19 turnovers, while Texas State had just nine, another key component in the win.
GSU held a 43-36 rebound advantage and had 20 offensive rebounds today.
Senior All-Sun Belt forward Ashley Ezeh led Texas State with 23 points (10-15 FG) and seven rebounds. Guards Ayriel Anderson and Meghan Braeuer hit 4-of-5 and 4-of-6 outside the 3-point line, respectively.
Georgia State finishes 12-19 on the season, while Texas State improves to 16-14 and moves on to face No. 1 seed Arkansas State on Friday.
