Siesta Key, Fla. - The Georgia State sand volleyball team concluded the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournament on Sunday with a pairs tournament in three different brackets.
The No. 1 flight of Lane Carico and Katie Madewell, who went 3-0 on Saturday in pool play, lost in the semi-finals to Louisiana-Monroe in the gold bracket on Sunday. Carico and Madewell lost to Louisiana-Monroe's Tanya Sukach and Zuzana Markova in three sets, 22-20, 8-21, 18-16.
Before the semi-final match, the duo won two matches against College of Charleston and North Florida. In the first round, they defeated Charleston's Darcy Dorton and Andi Zbojniewica 21-14, 21-14, followed by North Florida's Anya Budinska and Dagnija Medina 21-19, 21-17. The pair finished the tournament with a 6-1 record.
In the silver bracket, No. 2 duo Jansen Button and Sara Olivova, lost to Florida International's Emily Pedschneit and Tina Taghiyani in three sets, 21-15, 22-24, 15-12.
In the invitational tournament, where teams played one set to 25, Nikki Senopoulos and Kaitlynn Hufstetler lost in the first round to Tulane's Olivia Utt and Mackenzie Moore, 25-18. Molly Smestad and Alexis Elmurr lost their first round match to Florida Gulf Coast's Olivia Mesner and Lindsay Childs 25-21.
The Panthers have one tournament and one dual remaining in their regular season schedule. They will travel Tallahassee, Fla., to the Florida State University Tournament April 20-21, followed by a day trip to Louisiana-Monroe on April 27.
