The Dragons (14-6) continued the second half explosion by making eight of its first 11 shots to run it to 55-39 at 11:50 and coasted on for the victory. The Colonial Athletic Association's leading scorer, senior Hollie Mershon, scored 15 in the second half for a game best 25 points.  In that second half, Drexel shot 64 percent (16-of-25, including 4-of-8 outside the arc). The Dragons made 10-10 free throws in their 46-point second half.

Visiting Georgia State struck first, opening a 10-7 lead at 14:40 and building that to 15-11 at 11:26, GSU had its final lead at 19-18 at 8:46, when a 3-pointer by Rachel Pearson gave Drexel a lead it would never lose at 21-19. A three-pointer by Georgia State's Ashlee Cole made it 33-31 for Drexel at the half.

Drexel roared out of the locker room with treys from Mershon and Meghan Creighton to ignite the 11-0 run. It was 65-49 with 5:30 to go, but Drexel finished with a 14-6 run over the final five minutes to produce the largest leads of the game.

Georgia State (10-10) was led by 13 points off the bench from freshman Ashlee Cole, who made three 3-point baskets. Sophomore point guard Ashley Watson returned after missing the last three games with an injury and produced 10 points and four assists. Cody Paulk led with seven rebounds, while adding six points.

In addition to Mershon's 25 points and five assists, Drexel got 20 points from senior forward Taylor Wootton. The Dragons made eight 3-point baskets and 15-of-16 from the free throw line. 

"Well, Drexel is one of the better teams in the CAA and they shot well in the second half, but I am not pleased with the way we did things, offensively or defensively, in the second half," coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener said. "We hurt ourselves with mental mistakes on both ends of the court and that had nothing to do with Drexel's play."

After playing five of its last eight CAA games on the road, GSU returns home for a pair of game this week. William and Mary comes to Atlanta for a Thursday night game.
