NEWARK, Del. – The GSU volleyball team dropped a 3-0
decision at Colonial Athletic Association rival Delaware Saturday night.
With the loss, GSU fell to 2-14 and 0-4 in the CAA while
Delaware improved to 5-11 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Senior Jamiee Freeman had another strong performance with
seven kills to go along with 18 digs on the night. Freshman Eliza Zachary
matched Freeman's kill total and posted a match-high three solo blocks and two
block assists.
The Freshman duo of Natalia Nieto and Andrea' DeLeon went
neck-and-neck in the assists category for GSU with Nieto posting 13 assists to
DeLeon's 12.
Junior Emily Averbeck continued her streak of solid
defensive play with 20 digs on the night. Freshman Gabby Serafin was third in
digs for GSU with 11.
Alissa Aker led the Blue Hens and all scorers with 14 kills
on the night while Mackenzie Olsen led the way with 31 assists on the night.
The Panthers will have a weekend off before returning to the
friendly confines of the GSU Sports Arena for the CAA home opener on October 13
against UNCW at 2 p.m. GSU also hosts CAA foe George Mason October 14 at 1 p.m.
