Strong Defense Not Enough as GSU Falls At Towson

BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior Jamiee Freeman's 11 kills were not enough as the GSU volleyball team fell to Towson 3-0 Friday night in conference action.

The Panthers fell to 2-13 overall and 0-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the loss while the Tigers improved to 15-3 overall and 2-0 in the CAA with the win.

Freeman was just two digs shy of a double-double with eight to go along with her 11 kills. Junior libero Emily Averbeck posted a match-best 17 digs in the contest. Defensively junior Andrea Book set the pace for the Panthers with three block assists while fellow junior Andrea Ezell had a near-perfect night in blocking with three block assists.

Freshman Dede Bohannon was second in scoring for GSU with nine kills out of 19 attempts for a .421 average on the night.

Bohannon posted a kill in the first set that tied the score at 16-all and forced a Towson timeout. GSU took a one point lead, 18-17, but the Tigers rallied late in the set to take the first game 25-23.

In the second set the Panthers kept it close but fell 25-22 and in the third frame the Tigers' offense proved to be too much for GSU as the Panthers fell 25-15.

GSU returns to action Saturday as the Panthers travel to James Madison for a CAA tilt. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
