TALLAHASSEE – The Georgia State sand volleyball team had a
strong showing in its first-ever exhibition against Florida State Saturday.
“Overall it was a pretty remarkable day,” said GSU assistant
coach Beth Van Fleet. “To play as well as we did against last season's No. 3
team was great.”
The exhibition consisted of six teams of two facing off in a
match of eight sets. In the No. 1 match the tandem of Lane Carico and Katie
Madewell defeated FSU's No. 1 team 8-0.
Nikkie Senopoulos and Alexis Townsend fell 2-6 in the No. 3
match and the duo of Molly Smestad and Alexis Elmurr tied FSU's No. 5 team 4-4.
FSU finished the exhibition winning a total of 32 sets to
GSU's 16.
The Panthers will begin their first official season of
competition in the spring of 2013.
