HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Georgia State volleyball team fell to
Hofstra 3-0 Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association action.
With the loss GSU fell to 4-17 overall and 2-7 in the CAA.
Hofstra improved to 15-13 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
Freshman outside hitter Dede Bohannon set the pace for GSU
offensively with 11 kills on the night. Fellow rookie Syndey Hunsley was second
in scoring with eight kills while freshman setter Natalia Nieto posted 25
assists.
Junior Emily Averbeck's 16 digs was tops for the Panthers
and freshman Eliza Zachary earned four block assists and a solo block to lead
the way for GSU.
The Pride led the whole way through the first set on the way
to a 25-18 set win.
In the second set the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on
two kills from Dede Bohannon and Sydney Hunsley. Hofstra took the lead but GSU
managed to tie the set at 20-20 thanks to a 5-0 run that was capped by a kill
by Nieto. Hofstra rallied, however, to take the second set 25-21.
Senior Jamiee Freeman put GSU up 7-5 with a service ace in
the third set and several Hofstra errors put the Panthers up 12-6. The Pride
battled back but GSU managed to take a 22-18 lead on a kill by Bohannon.
Hofstra rallied again and edged GSU 27-25 in the third set.
The Panthers will travel to Boston Mass., face Northeastern
Sunday at 1 p.m.
