August 23 - A Block Party for all GSU students was held at Hurt Park on Sunday afternoon and the athetics teams were out in full force to meet and greet their fellow students.
The party included a chance to get autographs and take pictures with all the fall sports teams, including the new football team. The men's soccer team, volleyball team and cross country teams were all on hand to sign. Women's soccer was on the road, earning a 3-2 overtime win over Jacksonville State and were not able to attend.
Following the Freshman Convocation and an event at the Recreation Center, Hurt Park was opened from 5-7 p.m. for the free party, while Gilmer Street was blocked off for other events pertaining to the event.
Free hot dogs and beverages, free popcorn, free tattoo painting and free games were among the activities to make the students feel welcome.
GSU's cheerleaders joined the team for a welcome cheer and Director of Athletics Cheryl L. Levick reminded all the new students that all the games this fall are free with the valid student ID, including the inaugural football game in school history on Thursday, Sept. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Georgia Dome.
Free Panther tee-shirts were passed out to students who registered for the Panther e-mail blast list.
