Wilmington, N.C. - The Georgia State women's tennis team (3-10, 1-0 CAA) won a close match against CAA rival UNC-Wilmington (7-5, 0-2 CAA), 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers open up conference play with a close 4-3 victory over UNC-Wilmington on the road.
Georgia State started the match by losing two of the three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. The team of Diana Nakic/Linda Hricistova earned the only win for the Panthers at No. 1 doubles defeating Kayla Schwenk/Christina Riley, 8-6.
The Panthers started its rally after sophomore Diana Nakic, ranked 28th nationally, won in straight sets over Kayla Schwenk, 6-2, 6-1. Nakic improved to 13-0 on the season and continues her streak of not losing a set this season. sophomore Linda Hricistova also won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, over Chelsea Kahle.
At No. 3 singles junior Katerina Gresova dropped the first set, 6-4, before winning the last two, 6-1, 6-0, to earn the victory in three sets.
With the match tied at three wins apiece it came down to the No. 4 singles match between freshman Tereza Lerova and UNC-Wilmington's Lindsay Leblang. Lerova won the first set 7-6 but dropped the second set 7-5. In the third set tie breaker, Lerova was able to pull out the exciting victory, 7-6 (7-2), to earn the come from behind victory for the Panthers.
Georgia State continues its road trip when they travel to Old Dominion next Friday March 26th.
