Patriots Sweep GSU, 3-0

FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Georgia State (9-9, 3-1 CAA) volleyball team fell to the CAA-leading George Mason Patriots (9-7, 4-0 CAA), 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-16), on Friday night in Fairfax, Va. GSU returns to action tomorrow when they battle James Madison at 7 p.m.

In the first set, the Patriots led much of the set by three or four, but a kill by Ashley Jones put the Panthers to within one at 16-15. However, Mason quickly pushed its lead back to three and went on to win the set, 25-20.

Set two proved to be the closest set of the match. With the Patriots holding a slim lead at 14-13, Mason quickly ran off four points to push the lead to 18-13. GSU could get no closer than three the rest of the set as George Mason took a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 win.

GSU tied set three at 10 and was down only 12-11 before Mason went on a 13-5 run to claim the set and match.

George Mason's Lana Zonjic and Noelle Fanella each had 14 kills to lead the Patriots. Jones led the Panthers with 13 kills, while Audrey Cantrell had 12 digs and Jamiee Freeman had 11. The Patriots held GSU to a .114 team attack percentage, while hitting .337. The match saw only nine ties and five lead changes.

During the match, junior Chelsea Perry moved into seventh place in GSU history for career assists with 1,458. She had 24 in the match.
