GSU Completes Final Meet Before CAA Championships

BOONE, N.C. -- The Georgia State cross country teams completed their final meet before the CAA Championships in two weeks as it took part in the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C., on Friday afternoon.

The men's team, who finished 14th out of 18 teams, was paced by freshmen Tyler Tomy (26:43.4) and Carlos Galindo (26:44.4) as the duo finished the race together in 74th and 75th place, respectively out of 147 runners. The 10 unattached runners do not count in the overall standings.

Junior Chris Harper (27:03.5) was the third Panther to cross the finish line in 89th place. He was followed by freshmen Shyam Kapadia (27:35.2), Warren Enriquez (28:31.0), Brandon Black (29:42.2) and Julian Black (30:09.1).

On the women's side, sophomore Katharine Showalter led the way for the women with a 45th place showing in a time of 18:59.8. The women's team placed 11th out of 18 teams.

The rest of the members of the cross country team ran at the Oglethorpe Invitational on Saturday, with the women's team placing second out of nine teams. Jennifer Rubel (21:19.03) and Andrea Rodriguez (21:26.76) led the way with sixth and seventh place finishes.

Sophomore Tyler Champagne (29:40.18) led the way on the men's side with a sixth-place finish.

The CAA Championships will be held on Saturday, October 30 in Wilmington, N.C., at 10 a.m.
