Volleyball Rallies for 3-2 Win Over Towson

Trailing 2-0 to Towson on Friday night, the Georgia State volleyball team rallied for a five-set, 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-9) win over the Tigers on Friday night at the GSU Sports Arena. Junior Ashley Jones scored her third consecutive triple-double to lead the Panthers in the comeback.

With the win, the Panthers improved to 15-6 and 3-3 in the CAA heading into their match-up with first-place Delaware on Sunday. Towson fell to 8-13 and 1-5 in the CAA.

"Our energy level and our level of play, as well as Towson's effort really hurt us in the first two sets," commented head coach Mike Webster. "However, we came out really strong and played our game the rest of the night and it showed on the court."

Jones, who has now scored five triple-doubles this season, fell just one kill shy of a career high with 23, while added 11 assists and 15 digs in the win. It was the 11th triple-double of her career. She finished the match hitting a team-high .319.

"Ashley played a extremely well for us tonight. The defense across the board was great and we played balanced enough to win."

"We have done well in five-set matches this year and I knew when we pushed them to that final set that we had a chance to take the match."

Senior Jocelyn Waldern added eight kills and 10 digs, part of the team's season-high 80 digs.

Redshirt-junior Audrey Cantrell scored a team-high 23 digs and is now just 24 digs shy of 1000 for her career, which would make her just the seventh Panther to accomplish that feat.

Redshirt-junior Vineece Verdun added seven kills, while junior Rachel Boryc and freshman Jamiee Freeman each added five.

Sophomore Chelsea Perry added a double-double of 28 assists and 12 digs in the win.

Towson was led by Britney Loomis' double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs.

Katee Luecke added a team high 25 assists in the loss.
