Volleyball Falls to Towson in Three

The Georgia State volleyball continued their four-match road trip with a 3-0 loss to Towson on Friday night. The Panthers (1-20, 1-7 CAA) could never find their rhythm, while the Tiger (16-8, 5-3 CAA) offensive attack was too much for State's front line.

Georgia State was led by sophomore Ashley Jones who was coming off of her third triple-double of the season. Jones scored six kills, five assists and seven digs on the evening. Redshirt-sophomore Audrey Cantrell added a team-high 11 digs, while freshman Muki Kangwa scored five kills.

State would come out in each set and stay close to the Tigers through the middle of the set, before a Towson run each time proved too much to overcome.

In the first set, a kill by senior Liz Schaab would cut the Tiger deficit to two at 8-6, but Towson would immediately go on a 7-1 run to take a 15-7 lead and then go on to win the set 25-16.

The second set would be much the same, as after falling behind 10-3 early, State would fight back and on a kill by Kangwa, cut the Tiger deficit to three at 11-8. However, the Tigers would use an 8-3 run to put the set away, taking it by a 25-16 margin.

Just as they have continued to fight in ever match this season, the Panthers would not go quietly in the third. Neither team would gain more than a one-point advantage early in the match and on a Towson attack error, the match would be tied at 11. Although Towson would go on another run, the Panthers would counter and on a kill by sophomore Alysa Long, cut the deficit to two at 17-15. The Tigers offense attack, as it had in the first two sets, would prove too much to handle, as Towson took the third set and the match, 25-18.

Towson was led by Shelynne Hoyt who scored 11 kills and hit .529 for the match. Ally Perko added nine kills for the Tigers, while Katee Luecke scored a match-high 36 assists.

The Panthers will conclude their road trip at Delaware on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. State will return home on October 28th to face Kennesaw State at 5:30 p.m. As a reminder to fans, admission to the Sports Arena is free of charge.
