Georgia State Drops 64-42 Decision at Northeastern

BOSTON (Feb. 15, 2007) ? Georgia State was out scored 36-16 in the second period en route to a 64-42 setback at Northeastern Thursday evening in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball action at Solomon Court.

 

Georgia State sophomore guard Brittany Hollins (Columbia, S.C.) and freshman forward/center RaShay Rawls (Augusta, Ga.) tied for team-high honors with 10 points as the Panthers (15-10, 7-7 CAA) see their two-game win streak come to a close. Sophomore center Marcquitta Head (Conley, Ga.) tied for game-high honors with 10 rebounds and posted seven points.

 

Freshman Lucia Pablos led three Northeastern players in double figures with 21 points as the Huskies (4-21, 3-11 CAA) snap an eight-game losing skid. Junior Shaleyse Smallwood totaled 19 for NU and junior Stefanie Hodell registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

 

The first half featured four ties and seven lead changes as the Huskies took a 28-26 lead into the intermission. Rawls scored Georgia State's final six points of the period. Her last field goal occurred with 5:47 left as the Panthers were held scoreless for the remaining of the stanza.

 

The Panthers' offense continued to struggle in the second period with the team shooting just 26 percent from the floor. Northeastern opened the frame on a 23-8 run, keyed by four 3-pointers over the first 13 minutes to stake a 51-34 advantage. State connected on only four field goals over the final 10 minutes en route to the final 64-42 score.

 

Northeastern took advantage by scoring 19 points off 23 Georgia State turnovers. The Panthers shot 33 percent from the floor for the game and out rebounded the Huskies, 41-36. NU made 39 percent of its field goals, including 41 percent in the second half.

 

Georgia State hosts Hofstra Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Georgia State Sports Arena. The contest will be televised live on four regional television networks, including Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, Comcast SportsNet- Philadelphia, Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast and SportsNet New York.
