ATLANTA (Nov. 27) ? Despite double-double efforts from sophomore forwards Shay Rawls and Danyiell McKeller, Georgia State fell to Jackson State, 68-60, Tuesday night at the Georgia State Sports Arena.

The Panthers committed 28 turnovers and watched a 43-38 lead with 14 minutes to play evaporate on a 10-0 run by Jackson State. This was a game with seven lead changes and five ties.

Georgia State (2-4) got 16 points and 11 rebounds from forward Shay Rawls, plus 14 points and 10 rebounds from Danyiell McKeller. Brittany Hollins added seven points and seven assists.

Guard LaSharee Christian scored 18 points to lead Jackson State (2-3) and DeQuisha Davis and Carena Easley each added 14 points.

Georgia State held a 39-32 rebound advantage and made 14-of-15 free throws, but it was the turnovers and unforced errors that led to the loss.

“We could have won this game if we had taken care of the ball,” Coach Lea Henry noted post-game. “But we didn't have the patience we needed. Every time we did some good things we made unforced mistakes to hurt ourselves. I've mentioned before we are a young team that is having to learn as we go and we will just continue to reinforce the positives to the team because we have the potential to be better.”

Georgia State started the game with a 7-3 lead before the first tie of the game at 9 with eight minutes played. The visitors opened their largest first-half lead at 24-17 before the Panthers roared back to 26-25 after eight straight points from Rawls. Jackson State led 32-29 at the break.

The first six minutes of the second half was all Georgia State as they went on a 14-6 run to open the 43-38 margin. But, Jackson State's quick answer gave them a lead they would never lose.

The Panthers will be off for a 10-day game break when they next play on Friday, Dec. 7 at Alabama State.
