ATLANTA (Jan. 30, 2007) ? Georgia State's women's basketball team goes on the road Thursday to take on Colonial Athletic Association foe Towson at 7 p.m.
Thursday's game will be broadcast live over the Internet at GeorgiaStateSports.com and www.wras.org and on the radio at WRAS-FM (88.5) in Atlanta.
Georgia State owns a 2-0 lead in the series after recording a regular season sweep of the Tigers last year. State topped Towson 89-65 on the road and 78-69 in overtime in Atlanta.
The Panthers have split each of their two weekly games for the past four weeks en route to a 4-4 record in the month of January. State snapped a two-game skid with its win over Drexel Sunday.
A victory over Towson Thursday moves the Panthers back to .500 in league action for the second time this season and positions the team for no worse than a tie for sixth in the league standings. State is 4-5 on the road and 2-2 on the road against conference opponents.
Towson (14-5, 5-4 CAA) has won three consecutive contests. The Tigers started the season 10-1, but also went 4-4 in the month of January. Towson is 6-2 at home this season and 2-2 at home against the CAA.
Senior guard Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen paces State's offense, averaging 17.2 points per game, which ranks 63rd in the nation. She is third on the team in rebounding at 5.7 boards per contest and leads the team, the CAA and is fourth nationally in assists with 6.6 per outing. Freshman forward Danyiell McKeller (Fayetteville, N.C.) is fourth on the team in scoring (10.1 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.0 rpg). Another freshman, guard Tabitha David (Mableton, Ga.), is also averaging in double figures, totaling 10.0 per contest to rank fifth. She is the team's top 3-point threat, connecting at 40 percent from beyond the arc and leads State with 41 treys.
Sophomore center Marcquitta Head (Conley, Ga.) is Georgia State's top rebounder, collecting 8.5 boards per game; she scores 10.6 points per contest, ranking second on the team. Guard Brittany Hollins (Columbia, S.C.), is having an all-CAA type season, holding averages of 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds 5.1 assists and 3.4 steals per game, which leads the CAA is sixth in the nation.
Freshman guard Shanae Baker-Brice, a four-time CAA Rookie of the Week selection, is Towson's top scorer, averaging 15.5 points per game. Holly Mahan is second in scoring (10.6) and leads the team in rebounding (7.8). Senior Kelly Robinson averages 10.2 points and 4.5 boards per game.
