Georgia State Battles Drexel Sunday at 2 p.m.

ATLANTA (Jan. 27, 2007) ? Georgia State's women's basketball team completes a three-game home stand Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when it takes on Colonial Athletic Association bottom-dweller Drexel at the Georgia State Sports Arena.

 

Sunday's game will be broadcast live over the Internet at GeorgiaStateSports.com and www.wras.org and on the radio at WRAS-FM (88.5) in Atlanta. Live video of the game is also available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.

 

Drexel owns a 1-0 lead in the series after posting a narrow 58-56 victory in Philadelphia last season in the first meeting between the two teams. The Dragons are making their first-ever visit to the Sports Arena.

 

The Panthers have dropped two straight and enter the contest on a three-game home losing skid. State (11-8, 3-5 CAA), which is 5-3 overall at home and 1-3 at home against CAA opponents, is coming off a close one-point setback on Thursday and a double-overtime defeat last Sunday. The Panthers have won 11 of their last 16 games.

 

The Dragons (5-14) are winless in CAA competition, standing 0-8 in league play. Drexel is 0-3 on the road in conference contests. Their last victory was a 61-58 triumph over American on Dec. 30, 2006.

 

Senior guard Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen paces State's offense, averaging 16.9 points per game. She is third on the team in rebounding at 5.7 boards per contest and leads the team and the CAA in assists with 6.6 per outing. Freshman forward Danyiell McKeller (Fayetteville, N.C.) is third on the team in scoring (10.3 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.1 rpg). Another freshman, guard Tabitha David (Mableton, Ga.), is also averaging in double figures, totaling 10.2 per contest to rank fourth. She is the team's top 3-point threat, connecting at 39 percent from beyond the arc, and leads State with 39 treys.

 

Sophomore center Marcquitta Head (Conley, Ga.) is Georgia State's top rebounder, collecting 8.7 boards per game; she scores 10.4 points per contest, ranking second on the team. Guard Brittany Hollins (Columbia, S.C.), is having an all-CAA type season, holding averages of 9.9 points, 3.7 rebounds 5.1 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

 

Freshman forward Gabriela Marginean, a one-time CAA Rookie of the Week selection, is the Dragons' top scorer and rebounder, averaging 14.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, respectively. Narissa Suber ranks second in scoring with 14.0 points per game.
