State Prepares for VCU Sunday

ATLANTA (Jan. 20, 2007) ? Fresh off the heels of a thrilling double overtime Colonial Athletic Association road win, the Georgia State women's basketball team sets its sights on Va. Commonwealth, which pays a visit to the Georgia State Sports Arena Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Sunday's game will be broadcast live over the Internet at GeorgiaStateSports.com and www.wras.org and on the radio at WRAS-FM (88.5) in Atlanta.

Both teams enter Sunday's contest on two-game win streaks in CAA play. Va. Commonwealth owns a 2-1 lead in the series after posting a season sweep of the Panthers last year, including an overtime win in Atlanta.

The Panthers (11-6, 3-3 CAA), winners of eight of their last 10, are in position to win consecutive home conference games for the first time since joining the league in 2005-06. State is 5-1 at home this season and has been out scoring opponents 70.8 to 57.2 in those contests. A Georgia State victory keeps the Panthers in no worse than a tie for the No. 5 position in the CAA standings.

The Rams (9-7, 2-4 CAA) started the season 6-0, but has since gone 3-7. The Rams are 3-6 on the road, but have yet to win a conference game in three tries away from Richmond (0-3).

Senior guard Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen paces State's offense, averaging 15.9 points per game. She is third on the team in rebounding at 5.9 boards per contest and leads the team and the CAA in assists with 6.5 per outing. Freshman forward Danyiell McKeller (Fayetteville, N.C.) is third on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.1 rpg). Another freshman, guard Tabitha David (Mableton, Ga.), is also averaging in double figures, totaling 11.1 per contest to rank second. She is the team's top 3-point threat, connecting at 40 percent from beyond the arc, and leads State with 38 treys.

Sophomore center Marcquitta Head (Conley, Ga.) is Georgia State's top rebounder, collecting 8.6 boards per game; she scores 9.6 points per contest. Guard Brittany Hollins (Columbia, S.C.), is also playing well, holding season averages of 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds 5.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game.

Forward Krystal Vaughn paces the Rams offense, averaging 16.7 points per game. She is also the team's second leading rebounder at 7.8 rpg. Quanitra Hollingsworth, the 2005-06 CAA Rookie of the Year, is totaling 13.3 points and leads the Rams with 8.6 boards per game.
