ATLANTA (Jan. 2, 2007) ? Georgia State's women's basketball team aims to keep its undefeated streak at home intact Thursday as the Panthers host Colonial Athletic Association opponent Northeastern at 6 p.m. at the Georgia State Sports Arena. State is 4-0 at home this season and has won eight of its last nine, including its current five-game winning streak.
Thursday's game, which is the CAA home opener for State, will be broadcast live over the Internet at www.wras.org and www.georgiastatesports.com and on the radio at WRAS-FM (88.5) in Atlanta. Fans can also catch live Web streaming and audio of the game using the Panthers Insider link at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
The Panthers trail in the all-time series 2-1. State will be looking for redemption against NU after dropping the two meetings last season to the Huskies by a combined seven points. Northeastern enters the contest with a 1-11 overall record, while the Panthers are 8-4 on the year. Both teams are looking to earn their first league victory of the season as they each stand at 0-1.
A victory over Northeastern would give Georgia State nine wins on the year, equaling its total number of victories from last season. It would also mark the Panthers' sixth consecutive triumph, tying its longest win streak since the 2002-03 season.
Senior guard Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen (St. Petersburg, Fla.) paces State's offense, averaging 14.0 points per game. She is third in rebounding at 6.1 boards per contest and leads the team and the CAA in assists with 6.6 per outing. Roegiers-Jensen, who was named the Georgia State Invitational Most Valuable Player Saturday after averaging 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game in two Georgia State victories, needs only 11 points to become the 17th Georgia State women's basketball player to amass 1,000 points in her career.
Freshman forward Danyiell McKeller (Fayetteville, N.C.) is second on the team in scoring and rebounding at 11.9 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Another freshman, guard Tabitha David (Mableton, Ga.) is also averaging in double figures, totaling 11.5 per contest. She is the team's top 3-point threat, connecting at 43 percent from beyond the arc, and leads State with 26 treys.
Sophomore center Marcquitta Head (Conley, Ga.) rounds out the double-digit scorers with a 10.7 ppg average. She is the Panthers' top rebounder at 8.4 per game. Guard Brittany Hollins (Columbia, S.C.), is also playing well, holding season averages of 9.9 points, 3.9 rebounds 5.4 assists and 3.7 steals.
Northeastern opened the season with nine consecutive losses under its first-year head coach Daynia La-Force Mann before posting an 87-77 victory over Harvard on Dec. 21. The Huskies have dropped two straight since then for its current 1-11 mark. Sophomore Ashlee Feldman is the Huskies' top scorer, averaging 13.3 points per game. Junior Lucia Pablos averages 11.1 per contest.
