There will be Holiday Basketball at Georgia State between Christmas and New Year's!
The four-team women's field is ready for Friday, Dec. 29 and Saturday, Dec. 30 for afternoon hoops at the Sports Arena.
On Friday, the Mississippi Valley Deviletters of the SWAC will challenge the hot Georgia State Panthers at 2 p.m. Then, 30 minutes after that ends, UT-Martin from the Ohio Valley Conference will battle Birmingham Southern of the Big South Conference.
The two losing teams Friday will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the championship game of the Georgia State Invitational to follow around 4 p.m.
Coach Lea Henry has her Georgia State squad on a roll with three straight victories and wins in six of the past seven games. The young, but talented, State squad has balance with five players averaging between 12.8 and 9.6 as they take turns leading the team. The lone senior, Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen, is filling the leadership role and finding ways to help the team win. Georgia State (6-4) is 2-0 at home this year as eight of the first 10 games were played on the road.
The Devilettes from Itta Bena, Miss. are led by 5-10 Portia Wilson (16.7 ppg) and senior guard Christen West.

Following this tournament, the Panthers will get ready for rugged Colonial Athletic Assocation play when they play host to Northeastern on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Sports Arena. The CAA is currently ranked the No. 7 league in the nation of the 31 Division I conferences with Delaware at 9-1, James Madision at 8-1, Hofstra at 8-1 and Towson at 8-1. Perennial and defending champ ODU is highly rated in RPI despite a 3-6 mark as the Monarchs play a rugged non-league schedule. Georgia State, VCU and William & Mary are all 6-4. The league has wins over No. 17 Michigan State, No. 20 Kentucky and the ACC's Wake Forest among the many wins this season.
