ATLANTA (Nov. 21) ? Georgia State won its second straight game with a 70-59 win over Alabama State Tuesday night at the Georgia State Sports Arena.
The host Panthers (2-2) gained the lead for good at 28-25 in the first half and led by 32-27 at the break. A 9-1 run to start the second half built the margin to 13 points at 41-28 at 17:32. Georgia State continued to build the lead, getting it as high as 22 points at 58-36 with 8:30 left before beginning its substitutions and ending the final minutes with five freshmen on the floor.
Sophomore guard
Leonard Mendez led with 17 points with two-of-three treys, while senior forward
Lance Perique netted 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior wing
Ryan McBride came off the bench to add 11 points on three-of-six three-point shots. Sophomore forward
Rashad Chase contributed eight points and eight rebounds in his 23 limited minutes.
In a duel of the 6-7 Lott brothers, Georgia State freshmen, Kevin, came off the bench to score four points, grab seven rebounds, and block a shot in the win. Alabama State red-shirt junior starter, Richard, was the game's leading rebounder with 12 while adding six points and a blocked shot of his own as mom and dad watched from the stands.
Alabama State (0-2) was led by the 15 points from forward Moses Edun and the 10 points from Deshean Porchea in reserve.
Georgia State dominated the rebounding with a 48-32 advantage and penetrated underneath to shoot 36 free throws and make 27.
The Panthers will continue through the Thanksgiving break with a game on Saturday night at Charlotte, an Atlantic 10 member. Game time is 7 p.m. with the pre game show beginning on WRAS-FM (88.5) Radio at 6:30 p.m.
