UNC Wilmington (13-5, 8-3) scored two goals in the first six minutes and the Panthers found themselves unable to match the deficit as the game continued. The Seahawks would add a third goal late in the first half to take a 3-0 advantage, before Georgia State scored a goal in the second period.

Georgia State (5-12-3, 2-8-1) missed two key consecutive opportunities to score in the second half. Senior forward Lauren Chavez had a penalty kick blocked by Seahawk goalie Emily Pratt, who miraculously managed to dive in front of a bullet pass by junior forward Nathalie Carter immediately after off Chavez's rebound.

“The missed penalty kick and our goalkeeping errors where examples of errors that have hurt us all year,” said Georgia State head coach Domenic Martelli. “Despite the errors, we were still in it in the second period and had chances. My team played well in the second half and all the seniors gave a great effort in their last game.”

Seahawk Kelly Renkin scored the first goal of the game when she launched a 30-yard bomb past Georgia State senior goalkeeper Sharon Jassen in the 3rd minute. Junior forward Ashley Church pushed the Seahawk lead to two when she received a pass from Erica Rodgers on the left wing and kicked the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Junior midfielder Jenny Cauble added a third goal in the 38th minute to make the deficit 3-0 going into the half.

The Georgia State defense limited the Seahawks' offensive opportunities in the second period and prevented UNC Wilmington from scoring in the half. UNC Wilmington had four less shots in the second half, than the first half.

Georgia State scored in the 78th minute when Chavez headed a Kay Harbrueger corner kick into the top of the net.

Georgia State was led offensively by Harbrueger, who had four shots and an assist, Chavez, who performed well in her last game as a Panther with three shots and a goal and Carter, who recorded six shots in the game. Three Panthers recorded one shot in the game, including senior midfielder Amber Collins-Cephers in her last game for Georgia State.

UNC Wilmington out shot the Panthers 24-16 in the contest and each team had three corner kicks.

“It's unfortunate we finished 5-12-3 when I felt like this was one of the more talented and better Georgia State teams I've had,” added Martelli after the game.

Seniors Rebeccah Bernard, Tiffany Blackmon, Chavez, Tenisha Cohen, Collins-Cephers, Jassen and Rosie O'Toole each played their last game for the Panthers on Saturday.
