Biography

Robert Murphy was elevated to the position of Assistant Athletic Director- Sports Medicine in May, 2008, and enters his ninth year in intercollegiate athletics.

He served his first season as Georgia State’s Head Athletic Trainer in 2007, working and traveling with the women's basketball program.

Murphy, who brought of wealth of knowledge and experience to the Panthers in 2007, spent his first year presiding over the daily operations of the athletic training facilities, supervising all rehabilitation programs, and coordinating the Panthers’ drug testing program.

Murphy came to the Panthers with seven-plus years of Division I experience, including a recent role as assistant athletic trainer at the United States Military Academy (Army) in West Point, N.Y. At West Point, he worked with football, men’s basketball and baseball since 2000.

Additionally, Murphy has taught pharmacology to undergraduate athletic training students at Dominican College in Orangeburg, N.Y., and holds the title of treasurer and secretary for the College Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Murphy completed his master’s of science degree in exercise science at Syracuse University in 2000 and his bachelors of science degree in sports medicine at Marietta College in 1998.

He is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and currently resides in Smyrna, Ga. He and his wife, Josephine Lee, married in 2007. She is an athletic trainer at Georgia Tech.
