OVERVIEW:
Signed with the program in April during the 2008 Spring signing period... Post player with career double-double season averages.
Physical post player with scoring, rebounding and defensive skills that can grow into college game... Has aggressive attitude combined with solid work ethic...Was committed in classroom and may pursue a career in medicine.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Impressive athlete who was named first-team all-district for Jesse H. Jones High in Houston after spending most of first three years at Dulles High in Sugar Land in the Fort Bend District...Helped lead Falcons of Jones High and Coach Quincy Shelton to 20-4 record in 2007-08.
Led Dulles Vikings of Coach Doug Letchenberg to District title...She was on three teams that won the District Tournament...Was also a National Honor Society honor student in the classroom.
As senior, averaged 14.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, plus 3.3 blocks and 2.5 steals...Produced a 28-point, 18-rebound game in 2007-08.
At Dulles as a junior, had top game of 20 rebounds with 14 points and three blocked shots.
Played both center and power forward during career and has worn a uniform with her lucky number 4 in it her career, and will continue with No. 14 at Georgia State.
Played two years AAU ball with the Houston Cobras, ranked No. 15 nationally and one year with the Houston Insiders, ranked No. 25 nationally.
Houston’s Jones High has produced nationally-known alumnae like this year’s NFL Hall of Fame DB Darrell Green, Denver Broncos DE Alfred Williams, NBC-TV reporter/White House correspondent Rosiland Jordan and actress Jobeth Williams (Kramer v. Kramer, Poltergeist, The Big Chill). Dulles High is where pitcher Roger Clemens first started before transferring, and is alma mater of Grammy winner Billy Stritch.
Being recruited, Bennett also received interest from the University of Tulsa and Blinn (Texas) College.

Parents are James Simmons and Rose Bennett...Has a son, Kaleb...Father played basketball at Wiley College and then in Chicago Bulls camp.
Has older sister, Wyntress Bennett, 20, and younger brother, Justin Bennett, 15. Sister, who was a year ahead of her in school, played basketball and got her started playing in seventh grade ...Grew up a basketball fan of Michael Jordan, Paul Pierce and Allen Iverson... Favorite teams are the Celtics, Pistons and Georgia State Panthers..
Her hobbies include drawing, etching designs of clothing, and reading. Likes to draw cartoons, people and places she visits.
Chose Georgia State because of respect for coaching staff and chance to contribute immediately, as well as all the opportunities the city of Atlanta has to offer...Plans to start with classes and a major in biology leading toward a career in medicine.
