Billy Lutz has been a member of the Georgia State athletics staff since 2014 and is currently serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. Lutz primarily worked with the Panther football team in his first season and will focus his attention to men’s soccer during his second year before, returning to football in the spring.
Lutz is currently working toward a Master of Science in sports medicine at GSU and plans to graduate in May of 2016 with a goal of working with an NBA team or at the NCAA Division I level.
He came to Atlanta after graduating from Iowa State in 2014 with a B.S. in athletic training. While in Ames, he worked with the Cyclones swimming and diving, football and men's basketball programs. His senior year was highlighted by a Big 12 tournament championship and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament with the basketball team. Lutz also studied eastern medicine abroad in Taiwan in the summer of 2013 through the University of Georgia.
His other experiences include the Peachtree Road Race in 2014, the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa the past three years, the 2013 National Judo Championships in Taipei, Taiwan, the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, the 2013 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League and three years at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.
A native of Saint Paul, Minn., Lutz is a licensed athletic trainer by the State of Georgia Department of Health and a certified athletic trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and is certified in CPR and first aid by the American Heart Association. Lutz is also a certified emergency medical responder by the American Red Cross and a certified sound assisted soft tissue mobilization specialist.
