A member of the Georgia State staff since 2017, Ginny Thompson currently serves as the assistant to head coach Dell McGee.
After joining the GSU staff in March of 2017 as High School Relations Recruiting Coordinator, Thompson was elevated to Director of On-Campus Recruiting and Player Personnel in 2019.
She served in that role through 2023, overseeing the recruiting department and all day-to-day recruiting operations, including coordination of official visits, unofficial visits and gameday operations and management of compliance records. As the eligibility center liaison, she ensured a seamless transition for student-athletes. She also served as NFL liaison, assisting in the scouting of seven future NFL athletes as well as numerous others who have pursued professional careers.
Thompson came to GSU from Appalachian State, where she served as assistant director of athletic development from 2015-17. She spent a total of five years on the Mountaineers' development staff, previously serving as an intern and then development assistant. During her time there, she worked extensively with event planning and fund-raising.
Thompson earned her bachelor's degree in recreation management-tourism management from Appalachian State in 2011 and then added a master's degree in higher education, community college and university leadership in 2014, also from App State.
A native of Johns Creek in suburban Atlanta, Thompson was a student-athlete for the Mountaineers, serving as a co-captain for the women's golf team.
