Dameyune Craig was elevated to Assistant Head Coach while continuing to serve as Georgia State's wide receivers coach in January 2026 after two successful seasons developing one of the nation's top receiving corps.
Craig originally joined the Panthers' staff in 2024 following six seasons (2018-23) as wide receivers coach at Texas A&M.
Under Craig's guidance, Georgia State wide receiver Ted Hurst developed into one of the most accomplished players in program history. After mentoring Hurst to a record-setting 2024 campaign that earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors and saw him break the program's single-season touchdown record, Craig helped Hurst build on that success in 2025 with his second consecutive 900-yard receiving season. Hurst became the first Georgia State football player to receive an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine while continuing to rewrite the Panthers' record book.
The success culminated in 2026 when Hurst was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 84th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft. Hurst became the highest NFL Draft selection in Georgia State history and just the fifth Panther ever selected in the NFL Draft.
Craig reunited with Georgia State head coach Dell McGee in Atlanta after previously playing alongside McGee at Auburn during the 1990s.
Widely regarded as one of college football's premier recruiters, Craig has built an impressive coaching résumé spanning more than two decades. Prior to arriving at Georgia State, he coached at Texas A&M (2018-23), Florida State (2017; 2010-12), Auburn (2013-15), LSU (2016; 2004), South Alabama (2008-09), Tuskegee (2006-07), and the Miami Dolphins (2005).
Throughout his coaching career, Craig has consistently earned national recognition for his recruiting success. He was ranked the nation's No. 4 recruiter by 247Sports in 2016 and No. 9 nationally in 2014, while Scout.com named him the Atlantic Coast Conference Recruiter of the Year in 2012.
During his first stint at Florida State from 2010-12, Craig served as quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator, helping develop future NFL first-round quarterbacks Christian Ponder and EJ Manuel. He also played a key role in assembling the nation's No. 1 and No. 2 recruiting classes in 2011 and 2012, highlighted by future Heisman Trophy winner and first-round draft pick Jameis Winston. The Seminoles posted a 31-10 record during Craig's three seasons in Tallahassee.
Craig returned to his alma mater in 2013 as Auburn's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, helping guide the Tigers to the Southeastern Conference championship and an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game during his first season.
He spent the 2016 season as LSU's wide receivers coach before returning to Florida State in a quality control role in 2017.
Prior to his time at Florida State, Craig helped launch South Alabama's football program as wide receivers coach during the Jaguars' first two seasons of competition (2008-09). Before that, he served as quarterbacks coach at Tuskegee (2006-07), where he helped lead the Golden Tigers to a 22-2 record, back-to-back SIAC championships, and the 2007 Black College National Championship.
Craig began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at LSU in 2004 before spending the 2005 season as a special teams assistant with the NFL's Miami Dolphins.
As a player, Craig was a record-setting quarterback at Auburn from 1994-97, leading the Tigers to an 18-7 record in 25 career starts. He earned Offensive MVP honors in both the 1996 Independence Bowl and the 1997 Peach Bowl before capping his collegiate career as the Senior Bowl MVP. He was also named Academic All-SEC as a senior in 1997.
A 2002 graduate of Auburn, Craig signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent and appeared in six NFL games over four seasons. He also played in NFL Europe, where he set the league's single-game passing record with 611 yards, and later competed in the Arena Football League.
