Colby Brown enters his first season at Georgia State in 2026, assisting with the defensive backs.
Brown starts his first season at GSU after spending one year at Louisiana Tech as the Assistant Defensive Backs Coach.
During his time at Louisiana Tech, Brown helped coach the defense into earning the #2 spot in the country for interceptions, finishing with a total of 22 on the season. Safety Jakari Foster was a part of this outstanding defense, finishing #1 in the country in interceptions with a total of eight and being awarded 1st team AP-All American.
In 2025, Brown spent time at The University of Utah as a Defensive Quality Control coach working with the Cornerbacks.
Prior to Utah, Brown spent two seasons at Central State University (2022-2023) as Defensive Backs Coach.
Brown was the lone Defensive Backs coach working with Corners, Safeties and nickels. During those two seasons the secondary ranked in the top 15 in pass defense both seasons in a row with Cornerback, Malik Johnson getting an invite to the HBCU legacy bowl all-star game.
Prior To Central State, Brown spent time coaching defensive backs at South Carolina State.
Coaching through the Covid-19 pandemic, Brown's 2020 football season at SCSU was canceled. Returning to practice and activity in the Spring of 2021, the Bulldogs played in four games and finished with a record of 3-1. Under
Brown's guidance, the SCSU secondary ranked among the top defensive units in FCS during the spring season with a total of eight interceptions and 24 pass breakups. Brown was also a part of the development in Decobie Durant, who was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
Prior to South Carolina State, Brown had coaching stints at Mercer University (defensive quality control & safeties) in 2019, Landmark Christian High School (defensive backs) in 2018, University of Cincinnati (Intern) in 2017 and Richwoods High School (defensive backs/wide receivers) in 2016.
A former standout athlete, Brown Sr., earned All-NJCAA honors as a cornerback at Highland Community College (2010-12) where he amassed a career total of 70 tackles, five interceptions, and 22 pass breakouts in two seasons. He then went on to play for Skip Holtz at Louisiana Tech from 2012-14 where he finished with 30 tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups during his senior season.
The College Park Georgia native, is a 2015 graduate from Louisiana Tech with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
