Dean Sando, a member of the Georgia State athletics staff since 2019, was elevated to the Associate Athletic Director of External Operations in June 2025.
Prior to his current role, Sando served as the department’s Development Coordinator from 2023–25. He originally joined Georgia State in 2019 and spent three years as Director of Baseball Operations, contributing to the day-to-day management and strategic operations of the program.
Sando brings 13 years of coaching and administrative experience spanning the high school, prep school, junior college, collegiate and professional levels, including one season in the NBA. He came to Georgia State after two years as program director and head men’s basketball coach at Combine Academy Basketball in Lincolnton, N.C., where he oversaw basketball operations while leading the Academy’s national team.
At the professional level, Sando spent the 2015–16 season as an assistant player development coach with the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, assisting with individual and group workouts, advanced analytics and video breakdowns.
His coaching background also includes one season (2014–15) as head varsity and junior varsity basketball coach and technology coordinator at Lakeside School, as well as two seasons (2013–14) as a graduate assistant basketball coach at Columbus State. Sando began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Chattahoochee Tech (2010–11) before serving as the head junior varsity coach and varsity assistant at Excel Christian Academy during the 2011–12 season.
A 2012 graduate of Kennesaw State, Sando holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
