Adam Scott enters his second season as Georgia State's pitching coach after guiding the Panthers' staff to a school-record earned run average in his first year with the program.
Under Scott's direction, Georgia State's pitching improved significantly in 2015 with a 4.14 ERA, nearly two runs lower than the previous season and ahead of the former school record of 4.29, helping the Panthers to a 30-win season.
Senior closer Kevin Burgee broke the Georgia State record for career saves, while another senior reliever, Jerry Stuckey, finished as the Panthers' all-time leader in appearances.
Nathan Bates completed his junior season with the second-lowest career ERA in school history. Following the season, he was selected in the 15th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft and is now pitching in the Los Angeles Angels organization.
Scott came to Georgia State in August 2014 from the strong junior college program at Wallace State (Ala.) Community College-Hanceville. Scott served three seasons (2012-14) as the pitching coach under NJCAA Hall of Fame head coach Randy Putman.
All three of Scott’s sophomore pitchers from the 2014 squad earned Division I scholarships, including Georgia State's Alex Hegner. In three seasons at Hanceville, Scott coached three pitchers who were later drafted and six who went on to Division I programs.
Scott was a two-year letterwinner as a pitcher at Alabama (2009-10), helping the Crimson Tide to NCAA tournament berths both years, including a Super Regional appearance as a senior. He began his college career at Shelton State (Ala.) C.C., which reached the JUCO World Series in 2008, when Scott was named to the all-tournament team.
A native of Hueytown, Ala., and a 2010 graduate of Alabama, Scott is married to the former Delaina Franklin.
