ATLANTA— Coming off a record-breaking season opener, Georgia State hits the road for the first time this season, traveling up I-75 to face Kennesaw State in game one of a home-and-home series on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium.
Georgia State opened the season with a 59-10 win over North Carolina A&T on Sept. 5, setting the program record for most points scored in a game, largest margin of victory and second fewest points allowed in program history.
The Panthers enter year three under the direction of head coach Dell McGee. Georgia State returns 50 student athletes from the 2025 roster and added 67 newcomers, including 37 transfers and 24 freshmen.
SERIES HISTORY
Georgia State and Kennesaw State are meeting for the second time in program history. The Panthers defeated the Owls 24-20 on Aug. 30, 2018, in a late fourth quarter comeback. This game marks the first of the home-and-home between the Panthers and Owls. After traveling to Kennesaw this season, the Panthers are slated to host the Owls at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium on Sept. 23, 2028.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
Kennesaw State is 1-0 on the season after shutting out West Georgia 47-0 on Sept. 3 at home. The Owls racked up over 500 yards in the season opener, including 226 in the air and 327 on the ground. Kennesaw saw action from three quarterbacks in game one, featuring starter Rickie Collins, who racked up 171 passing yards on 18 completions and a touchdown. Collins also notched two rushing touchdowns to lead the Owls.
A RECORD-BREAKING SEASON OPENER
In the Panthers' 59-10 win over North Carolina A&T, Georgia State broke the program record for most points in a game and the largest margin of victory, surpassing the previous mark of 55 (originally set vs. Savannah State in 2010 and matched vs. ULM in 2021). Georgia State's 35 first-half points tie for the second-most in a half in program history, matching the total against East Carolina in 2020. The Panthers' 24-point third quarter ties for the second-most points in a quarter in program history, marked against Texas State in 2016. The Panthers' 21-point second quarter ties for the third-most points in a quarter in program history, now done against 18 different opponents. Georgia State's blocked punt in the third quarter was the program's first since 2023. Defensively, the Panthers held the Aggies to 209 total offensive yards to mark the third-fewest yards allowed in a game.
