ATLANTA – Freshman outside hitter Sophia Johnson is the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week after a dominant three-match weekend, as announced in conjunction with the conference.

Johnson's honors come after a career-best stretch in which she totaled 47 kills, two aces, 28 digs and five total blocks across the weekend, hitting .328 for the stretch while racking up 51.5 total points. The performance set three new career highs for the freshman, who matched a career-high 17 kills in back-to-back matches against Middle Tennessee and Murray State before closing out the weekend with a season-best four total blocks against Northern Colorado.

Johnson opened the weekend with a double-double against Middle Tennessee, pacing the Panthers with 17 kills and a match-high 12 digs in a 3-1 win. She followed that up with an equally dominant 17-kill performance against Murray State, tying for the second-most kills in a three-set match across the Sun Belt this season. Johnson strung together double-digit kills in all three matches on the weekend.

Johnson and the Panthers look to build on the momentum at the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Ga., beginning Friday, Sept. 18, against Charleston Southern at 11:00 a.m. before taking on host Mercer at 6:00 p.m. Georgia State closes out the weekend Saturday, Sept. 19 against Montana State at 11:00 a.m.
