MONROE, LA -- Georgia State outlasted ULM in a 13-inning battle, scoring three runs in the final frame to secure a 10-7 victory in the series opener Thursday night at Lou St. Amant Field.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 14-17 overall and 3-7 in Sun Belt Conference play, while ULM falls to 17-14 and 6-4 in the conference.
Georgia State came out swinging in the first inning, plating four runs on five hits. Hunter Carlson singled to start the game before Nick Garagozzo doubled down the line. John Beverley followed with an RBI single, and Sam Silas delivered a two-run single to cap the early surge and give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.
ULM chipped away, scoring two runs in the first and adding single runs in the second and third to tie the game at 4-4. The Warhawks then took their first lead in the fourth inning with a two-run frame to go up 6-4.
Georgia State answered in the fifth when Silas launched a solo home run, his first of the season, before Adam Haber added an RBI single later in the inning to even the game at 6-6.
After ULM regained the lead in the seventh on a wild pitch, the Panthers responded in the eighth. Wills Maginnis doubled down the right-field line and came around to score on an RBI single from Beverley to tie the game at 7-7.
The game remained deadlocked through the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth innings as both pitching staffs settled in. Will Bartkoski was dominant out of the bullpen, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out 10 to keep the Panthers in the game.
Georgia State broke through in the 13th inning. Wesley Bass delivered a pinch-hit single before Sam Silas drew a walk. Austin Killingsworth followed with an RBI single to give the Panthers the lead, and Cole Griffith added a two-run double to extend the advantage to 10-7.
Bartkoski (1-0) closed out the victory in the bottom half, retiring the side to secure the win.
Silas led the Panthers with three hits and three RBIs, while Beverley added three hits and two RBIs. Maginnis, Garagozzo, and Griffith each contributed key extra-base hits as Georgia State totaled 15 hits in the contest.
Georgia State and ULM will continue the series Friday night in Monroe.
