ATLANTA -- Georgia State softball out-hit UL Monroe 9-8, but was unable to capitalize in a 4-2 setback to the Warhawks on Saturday afternoon at Bob Heck Softball Complex.
Briana Bower delivered a strong effort out of the bullpen, working 4.1 scoreless innings while not issuing a walk and striking out one to keep the Panthers within striking distance.
Offensively, McKenzie Walker paced Georgia State, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Maya Bagsby matched her with a 2-for-4 day, adding a double and an RBI of her own.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UL Monroe struck first in the third inning on a two-run home run to take a 2-0 lead.
Trailing by two, Georgia State answered in the fifth inning. McKenzie Walker drove in the Panthers' first run with an RBI single, then later scored on an RBI double from Maya Bagsby to even the game at 2-2.
The Warhawks regained the lead in the sixth inning, scoring two runs to move in front 4-2, and held the Panthers scoreless the rest of the way to secure the win.
