Panthers Drop Midweek Contest in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia State Panthers (12-8, 0-0 SBC) dropped a midweek matchup on Wednesday night, falling 9-1 to the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs at Jack Turner Stadium.

Briana Bower went the distance in the circle for the Panthers, recording her third complete game in the loss. At the plate, Georgia State was led by senior McKenzie Walker, who went 1-for-3 with the team's lone RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Georgia opened the scoring in the first, the Panthers responded in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, McKenzie Walker delivered an RBI single to bring home Hall from third, knotting the game at 1-1.

Georgia regained the lead with a run in the third and broke the game open with a three-run fourth, followed by a four-run fifth to seal the 9-1 decision.

GAME NOTES
» Georgia State's only run came in the second inning.
» Panthers pitching faced 29 Georgia batters, inducing six groundouts and three flyouts while striking out four.
» Walker led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Panthers will stay on the road through the weekend, traveling to Rock Hill, S.C., for the Winthrop Invitational. Georgia State will take on ETSU, Winthrop and Bucknell, opening the tournament with a 1 p.m. pitch against ETSU on Friday, March 6.
