Panthers Earn 1,000th Win in Program History

CARROLLTON, GA -- Georgia State earned its 1,000th win in program history with an 8-2 victory over West Georgia on Tuesday afternoon at Cole Field.

With the milestone win, the Panthers improve to 11-11 on the season, while West Georgia falls to 5-16.

Georgia State used a balanced offensive attack with all starters getting on base and strong pitching to secure the historic victory. The Panthers scored in five different innings and held West Georgia to just three hits in the contest.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the second inning when Carter Bailey drove in Wesley Bass with an RBI single to give Georgia State a 1-0 lead.

After West Georgia tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, Georgia State responded with a two-run third inning. Wills Maginnis tripled to center field to drive in a run before Nick Garagozzo followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1.

Georgia State added two more runs in the fourth inning. Maginnis drew a bases-loaded walk before Garagozzo lifted a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Panthers broke the game open in the sixth inning when Hunter Carlson launched a two-run home run to right field, pushing the lead to 7-1.

Georgia State added its final run in the ninth inning on an RBI walk from Bailey.

Carlson led the Panthers offensively with two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Maginnis added a triple and two RBIs, while Garagozzo drove in two runs. Bailey also finished with two RBIs.

On the mound, Hunter Atkins (1-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing one run and striking out three. Michael Caruso and William Petteys combined to close out the game, limiting West Georgia down the stretch.
