ATLANTA, Ga. – The Georgia State Panthers (18-9, 1-0 SBC) delivered Friday evening, walking off Marshall (17-9, 0-1 SBC) 2-1 behind a clutch RBI double from McKenzie Walker in the bottom of the seventh at the Bob Heck Softball Complex. The victory marked Georgia State's first win over the Thundering Herd since joining the Sun Belt Conference and the program's first triumph against Marshall since 2000.
Makayla Stephens turned in a dominant performance in the circle for Georgia State, tossing a complete game. Stephens allowed just one run on two hits over seven innings while striking out four.
McKenzie Walker powered the Panthers offensively, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a walk and the game-winning RBI. Maya Bagsby also contributed multiple hits, going 2-for-3, while Maia Mumpfield drove in Georgia State's first run of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia State struck first in the third inning. After Walker reached and moved into scoring position, Mumpfield delivered an RBI single to right field to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Marshall answered in the seventh when the Thunder Herd launched a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1.
The Panthers wasted little time responding. In the bottom of the frame, Ciarra Jefferson crossed the plate on Walker's RBI double to secure the walk-off victory.
