NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Georgia State closed out its weekend series with a 4-2 victory over Belmont on Sunday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park.
The Panthers improve to 9-4 on the season, while Belmont falls to 4-8.
Georgia State jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Jae Williams worked a leadoff walk and later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Wills Maginnis to make it 1-0.
The Panthers added two more runs in the second. John Beverley singled and stole second before Austin Sellers brought him home with a sacrifice bunt. Jae Williams followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
Jake Hembree was sharp on the mound, tossing 7.2 innings and allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out six. The left-hander worked around five walks and kept Belmont off the board through the first seven innings.
Belmont cut into the deficit in the eighth with a two-run home run, trimming the lead to 3-2.
Georgia State answered in the ninth. Maginnis led off the inning with a solo home run to push the advantage to 4-2.
Will Bartkoski entered in the eighth and secured the final four outs to earn his third save of the season.
Maginnis led the Panthers offensively with two hits, including the home run. Williams added a hit and an RBI, while Nick Garagozzo recorded a double. Georgia State totaled eight hits in the contest.
The Panthers return to Gwinnett Field for a matchup with Georgia Tech on Tuesday, March 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
