Beam Records Double-Double in Georgia State's 75-74 Loss to Northern Illinois

ATLANTA --Christian Beam collected a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, but the Georgia State men's basketball team fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies 75-74 in the SBC-MAC Challenge at home Saturday.

In addition to Beam's double-double, the Panthers were led by Jelani Hamilton, who had 16 points, and by Micah Tucker, who tacked on 16 points and five assists.

Georgia State collected 37 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Northern Illinois' 33, led by Beam's 13 boards. The Panthers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 10 rebounds into seven second chance points.

The Georgia State defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 13 Northern Illinois turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 11 points on the offensive end of the floor. Anthony Enoh led the way individually for the Panthers with two steals.


How It Happened

After falling behind 16-11, Georgia State went on a 7-0 run with 11:57 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Malachi Brown, to take an 18-16 lead. The Panthers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 37-35 advantage. Georgia State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 37 total points.

Northern Illinois then erased the Georgia State lead in the game's final quarter for a 75-74 comeback victory.
