Georgia State Downs No. 2 Georgia Tech in Historic Road Win

ATLANTA, GA -  Georgia State earned one of the biggest wins in program history Tuesday afternoon, defeating No. 2 Georgia Tech, 9-4, at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The victory improves the Panthers to 7-2 on the season and ties the highest-ranked win for any Georgia State team in any sport.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning on a two-run home run, Georgia State responded in a major way in the fifth. Adam Haber led off the inning with a double and Wills Maginnis was hit by a pitch before Hunter Carlson tied the game with a two-RBI single. Two batters later, Lucas Grantham launched a two-run home run to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead.

Georgia State continued to apply pressure in the sixth. Austin Sellers singled, and Jae Williams walked to set up Maginnis, who delivered a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2. Nick Garagozzo followed with an RBI single as the Panthers pushed the advantage to 7-2.

The Panthers added two more in the seventh. Sam Silas doubled and later scored on a Georgia Tech error before Haber lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 9-2.

Georgia Tech scored once in the seventh and once in the eighth, but Georgia State's bullpen held firm down the stretch.

Cole Roberts started and allowed two runs over 4.0 innings. Cooper Lewis (1-0) earned the win with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, striking out four and reaching 99 MPH multiple times. Will Bartkoski recorded his second save of the season, tossing the final 3.0 innings.

Offensively, Maginnis finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Carlson drove in two, and Grantham added two RBIs on his home run. Haber collected two hits, including a double, and Garagozzo added two hits and an RBI as the Panthers totaled 12 hits.

The win marks a historic milestone for Georgia State Athletics, matching the highest-ranked victory in Panthers program history.

Georgia State returns to action this weekend, traveling to Nashville to take on Belmont for a four-game series.
