Hot Shooting from Deep Not Enough to Overcome Marshall

ATLANTA — The Georgia State women's basketball team shot 53.3% from beyond the arc, but could not overcome the Marshall Thundering Herd, falling 82-75 at home Saturday afternoon inside the GSU Convocation Center.

The Panthers had two players score in double figures, led by Kaleigh Addie's game-high 20 points. Crystal Henderson added 16 points and five assists, while Ari Dyson contributed eight points and a team-best 13 rebounds.

Dyson was a force on the offensive glass, pulling down seven offensive rebounds to fuel Georgia State's second-chance attack. The Panthers converted those extra opportunities into 14 second-chance points, but were unable to erase the deficit late.

How It Happened
After falling behind 11-9, Georgia State responded with an 8-0 run with 6:07 left in the first quarter to take a 17-11 lead. The Panthers gave back part of that advantage late in the period, but still entered the quarter break ahead 23-20. Georgia State received a solid boost from its bench in the opening frame, with non-starters accounting for seven of the team's 23 points.

Georgia State held onto its first-quarter lead by putting together a 6-0 run starting at the 3:56 mark of the second quarter to push the margin to 38-31. The Marshall Thundering Herd chipped away at the deficit, but the Panthers still carried a slim 43-42 advantage into halftime. Georgia State was effective from deep in the second period, knocking down three triples to account for nine of its 20 points.

Marshall opened the second half by taking a 48-44 lead before Georgia State responded with a 9-0 run to regain the lead at 53-48 with 5:32 remaining in the third quarter. The Thundering Herd closed the gap before the end of the period, but the Panthers maintained a narrow 60-59 edge heading into the fourth.

Marshall erased Georgia State's lead in the final quarter and pulled away for an 82-75 comeback victory. The Panthers capitalized in the post, scoring 10 of their 15 fourth-quarter points in the paint, but were unable to reclaim the lead late.
