ATLANTA-- After ringing in the New Year with a historical upset against Coastal Carolina, Georgia State looks to build on its momentum while hosting Appalachian State for the second game of the 2025-26 series on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center.
Georgia State comes into play off of a monumental 89-71 win over coastal Carolina on the road on Dec. 3. The Panthers shot 76.0 percent from the field and 93.3 percent from three-point range line in the second half to flip a nine-point defect and secure the win.
This matchup marks only the fifth contest on home court for the Panthers and the first SBC contest in the GSU Convocation Center.
The Panthers will face both App State and Marshall twice within the same month, playing the Mountaineers on Dec. 20 and Jan. 8 and the Thundering Herd on Dec. 31 and Jan. 10.
The Panthers are 3-1 on home territory and have won three straight games at the Convo.
STATE vs. THE SUN BELT
The Panthers are 2-2 in conference play after defeating Coastal Carolina to even the score.
The Panthers defeated App State 70–63 on the road on Dec. 20, marking their first conference road victory of the season.
Georgia State opened conference play with a four-game road swing, tipping off with Georgia Southern.
The Panthers average 76.5 points per game in conference action.
Georgia State has shot 50 percent or better from the field in two of its last three conference games.
The Panthers have held opponents to 71 points or fewer in each of their two Sun Belt wins.
NATIONALLY RANKED IN FREE THROWS:
The Panthers lead the Sun Belt and rank seventh nationally in free throw efficiency after converting free throws at a 78.5 percent clip.
Redshirt sophomore Jelani Hamilton has a near-prefect free throw average after going 68-fo-72 at the free-throw line, leading the Sun Belt and ranking seventh nationally. Hamilton is on a 16-made streak from the free throw line, dating back to the first half of the road contest at App State on Dec. 20.
Tucker also tops the Sun Belt rankings in free throw percentage after notching an 86.2 percentage from the line to place fourth overall against conference opponents.
SHOOTERS SHOOT:
Georgia State averages 70.9 points per game, shooting 38.3 percent from the field. They connected on nearly nine three-pointers per game while shooting 32.0 percent from behind the arc.
The Panthers have recorded five games of 80 or more points, including a season-high 110 points vs. Columbia College (Dec. 28).
Georgia State averages 24.13 ppg off the bench, accounting for 34.0 percent of Georgia State's Overall offensive productivity.
