Hamilton Earns SBC Player of the Week

ATLANTA-- Georgia State redshirt sophomore guard Jelani Hamilton was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after powering the Panthers to a 2-0 week at home in league play and extending the team's winning streak to four games.

Hamilton averaged 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor (18-of-34), 44.4 percent from three-point range (8-of-18) and 85.0 percent at the free-throw line (17-of-20) in wins over Southern Miss and Arkansas State.

The Marietta, Ga., native poured in a career-high 38 points in Georgia State's dramatic 82-81 victory over Arkansas State on Jan. 24, shooting 12-of-21 from the field and 6-of-11 from beyond the arc while adding four steals. His 38-point effort is tied for the most by a Sun Belt player in a single game this season.

Hamilton opened the week with 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting and a 9-of-10 performance at the foul line in a 69-62 win over Southern Miss on Jan. 22. He has scored 20 or more points in three of the Panthers' last four games and currently leads the Sun Belt in scoring at 19.4 points per game.
