ATLANTA – The Georgia State women's basketball team (8-11, 3-4 SBC) hits the road for a two-game Sun Belt swing in Alabama, beginning with a conference matchup at South Alabama (9-8, 2-5 SBC) on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. ET inside the Mitchell Center in Mobile. The Panthers will then travel to Troy to face the Trojans (15-3, 6-1 SBC) on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

SERIES HISTORY

Georgia State dominates the series, holding a 14-11 record across 25 meetings, and look to continue their eight-game win streak after beating the Jaguars. Both teams have shown long strides of dominance with GSU currently having their longest win streak with eight games between 2020-25 and South Alabama having six wins between 2017-20. The Jaguars win streak was ended by a Panthers win during the 2020-21 season in Mobile, the Jaguars took back that win later in the season before losing eight straight to GSU. Home court advantage has played a role throughout the series, as Georgia State has posted eight wins at home compared to five in Mobile.

Georgia State holds a slight edge in the series against Troy, owning a 26-21 record across 47 meetings, and look to bounce back after a 72-80 loss in their most recent matchup on Jan. 11. Both teams have enjoyed stretches of dominance, with Georgia State posting a 13-game win streak between 3/5/1998 and 1/29/2004, while Troy recorded seven consecutive wins from 1/18/2020 to 1/7/2023. The Panthers' longest streak was ultimately snapped by a Troy victory during the 2003-04 season, while the Trojans' seven-game run ended with a Georgia State win in 2023. Homecourt advantage has factored heavily in the series, as Georgia State has secured 14 wins at home compared to 10 victories on the road in Troy.

BETWEEN THE LINES
South Alabama enters Thursday's matchup looking to secure a win after losing to Coastal Carolina the week before, resulting in a 2-5 conference record. A win would end their eight-game losing streak against the Panthers. The Jaguars have shown better results at home, posting a 7-2 record at the Mitchell Center. Although coming off a recent loss, South Alabama's offense has shown impressive results throughout the season. In the SBC they rank second in three-point percentage, fifth in field-goal percentage, and ninth in bench points per game.

Troy enters the week looking to extend their four-game winning streak after defeating Texas State on Jan. 14, giving the Trojans a 15-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Sun Belt play. Troy has been dominant at home, posting a perfect 7-0 record in Trojan Arena, while also performing well on the road with six wins. The Trojans have shown their versatility throughout the season, ranking first in the conference in assists per game (15.6), free throws made per game (15.3), rebound margin (+12.3), defensive rebounds (32.6), offensive rebounds (17.7), total rebounds (50.3), scoring margin (+17.2), scoring (84.6), and win percentage (83.3). Troy also ranks sixth in the Mid-Major polls and 63rd in the NCAA NET Rankings, continuing their streak as one of the nation's premier rebounding teams, highlighted by Zay Dyer, who recently claimed the most career rebounds in Division I history with her 678th.

HISTORIC SEASON OPENER
Georgia State opened the season in historic fashion Monday night, defeating Oglethorpe 108-59 at the GSU Convocation Center. The performance ranked third all-time in GSU history for both steals (26) and points (108) in a single game, marking one of the most dominant outings in program history.
