ATLANTA – The Georgia State volleyball team (5-1, SBC 0-0) closed out the GSU Invitational with a four-set victory over the Evansville Purple Aces (3-4, MVC 0-0) on Saturday at the GSU Sports Arena.
The Panthers offense was paced by Nazli Guvener, who finished with 13 kills and nine digs on the day. GSU got 32 digs from Marta Lazzarin along with six blocks from Rayne Williams to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
Set 1 | Georgia State jumped out to an early advantage, taking the opening frame 25-21 for a 1-0 match lead. The Panthers seized control for good at 11-10 in a set that featured just one lead change and never allowed Evansville to get within five the rest of the way. A strong defensive effort powered the win, highlighted by five blocks from the front row.
Set 2 | Riding the momentum, the Panthers edged closer to a sweep with a 25-23 win in the second set. Georgia State set the tone early, leading from the opening point and stretching the margin to as many as seven at 15-8. Evansville chipped away late, but the Panthers held firm to close it out.
Set 3 | Evansville kept the match alive with a 25-20 victory in the third. The Panthers trailed from the opening serve and were unable to recover as the Purple Aces controlled the frame start to finish.
Set 4 | Georgia State regrouped and finished strong, sealing the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth. The set featured two lead changes before the Panthers grabbed control for good at 9-8. Georgia State's attack was relentless, producing 18 of their 25 points on kills to cap off the victory.

GSU will stay in Tallahassee until Monday, Sept. 15 for the ACC/SBC Challenge where they will meet FSU on the court at 5 p.m.
