Men's Soccer Looks to Extend Unbeaten Streak During Homestand

ATLANTA - The Panthers enter their final two-game homestand of the season with an active three-game unbeaten streak. They will look to extend the streak when they play host to non-conference Wofford on Tuesday, September 23, and Sun Belt foe Old Dominion on Sunday, September 28.

PLAYING THE FULL 90

During the team's three-game unbeaten streak, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 3-1 in the second half. A pair of scores in the final 10 minutes helped secure a 1-1 tie with Lipscomb and a 1-0 victory over UAB. In their Sun Belt opener, the Panthers continued to battle, erasing deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to secure a draw on the road at South Carolina. Their resilience has been the hallmark of their upward momentum in the standings.

The improved play in Atlanta has been thanks in large part to Matthew Taylor's emergence as one of the Sun Belt's premier offensive threats. In the team's 1-0 victory over UAB, Taylor provided the game-winning goal with under seven minutes remaining on the clock. He continued his dominance on the road against South Carolina, getting involved in both goals with an assist and a score of his own. His five-point week brought him to a team-best nine on the season, good for seventh-best in the conference.

Loan Marin joined Taylor as the star of the victory over UAB, keeping the Blazers at bay for his first clean sheet with Georgia State.

The Panthers will take on the Terriers (3-5-0) for the fifth consecutive season on Tuesday evening. Georgia State has enjoyed success against Wofford, with an all-time series advantage of 5-1-2, including 4-0-1 in their last five matchups. The two squads faced three common opponents in the non-conference, with both teams defeating Winthrop, losing to UNC Asheville, and playing high-scoring contests with USC Upstate that ended with a Georgia State draw and a Wofford loss.

The Panthers return to conference play on Sunday, when they host Old Dominion (2-3-2). The Panthers trail in the all-time series, but have not suffered a loss at the hands of the Monarchs since 2012. The last two meetings between the two have ended in draws. Old Dominion suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to nationally ranked Georgia Southern in their conference opener, while the Panthers will look to build on their tie with South Carolina.
