ATLANTA — Georgia State wide receiver Ted Hurst has been named to The Athletic's 2025 College Football Freaks List, marking the first-ever selection for the Panthers football program.
The annual list, compiled by senior writer Bruce Feldman, highlights players across the nation whose physical abilities push the limits of athletic performance.
Hurst, a 6-3, 198-pound senior, has made a major impact since transferring to Georgia State from Valdosta State. In his debut Sun Belt season, he hauled in 56 receptions for 961 yards and a program-record nine touchdowns. One of his most memorable performances came in Georgia State's upset victory over Vanderbilt, where he scored twice — including the game-winning touchdown with just 15 seconds remaining.
His production is matched by elite measurables. This offseason, Hurst posted a laser-timed 4.51-second 40-yard dash, a 10-foot-8 broad jump and a 6.93-second three-cone drill. These elite numbers earned him his place among the nation's most physically gifted athletes.
"He's explosive, dependable, and puts in the work every day," head coach Dell McGee said. "He's the type of athlete that represents the next level of Georgia State football."
Hurst isn't the only Panther making waves this preseason. Former South Carolina running back DJay Braswell, another transfer under McGee's direction, is already turning heads with freaky numbers of his own. The 5-11, 215-pound back ran a 4.38 40-yard dash this offseason with a lightning-fast 1.47-second 10-yard split.
With standout athletes like Hurst and Braswell on the roster, Georgia State enters the 2025 season with a new level of national attention and freakish potential.
