MONROE, LA --The Georgia State Panthers had a tough showing on Sunday, falling to the UL Monroe Warhawks by final score of 14-4.
Senior Emily Hodnett (2-4) took the loss in the circle for Georgia State (8-21, ). The right-hander went 2.2 innings, giving up five runs, zero earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.
At the plate, the Panthers were paced by senior Ciarra Jefferson, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Jordan Rayner put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a home run, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Rayner put Georgia State on the board with a leadoff home run off junior Maddie Nichols.
The Panthers deficit expanded to 11-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Georgia State scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Jefferson, scoring Rayner and junior Ashton Schroyer, which tightened the Warhawks lead to 11-4. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as UL Monroe added three runs to their tally on the way to a 14-4 final.
