Georgia State Comes Up Short 4-1 to West Georgia

ATLANTA --The Georgia State Panthers put together a valiant effort on Friday, but ultimately came up short, falling to the West Georgia Wolves by the score of 4-1.

Senior Kate Kastelic (2-2) got the ball to start for Georgia State (6-16) and took the loss. The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out two. Senior Sydney Boulware was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three innings, giving up one run on three hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Sophomore Jordan Rayner put Georgia State on the board with a two-out solo home run off sophomore Jenna Samuel. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as West Georgia scored four times over the remaining three innings to grab the 4-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» Georgia State's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed one run across.
» Georgia State pitchers limited West Georgia to just 2-for-10 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» Georgia State pitchers faced 32 West Georgia hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and six fly balls while striking out six.
» Rayner led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI.
 

Georgia State will look to tighten their screws defensively in their game tomorrow vs Colgate.
