ATLANTA-- The Georgia State Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 6-1 win against the Colgate Raiders on Saturday.
Senior Emily Hodnett (2-3) got the win for Georgia State (7-16). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing three walks and striking out seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Georgia State scored twice, with one run coming across on senior McKenzie Walker's single.
The Raiders failed to push any runs across before the Panthers built on their lead in the fifth inning. Georgia State picked up a couple on a two-run triple from junior Maia Mumpfield, which brought the Panthers lead to 4-0.
Georgia State held Colgate without a run before expanding their lead to 6-0 the following inning. The Panthers added two to their tally on freshman Ryleigh Garrett's two-run homer to left. Colgate put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Georgia State still coasted to the 6-1 win.
